Were you able to identify the organizers of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall?
According to Russian officials, the Ukrainian authorities were involved in organizing the terrorist attack. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Ukraine to “immediately stop any support for terrorist activities, hand over the perpetrators and compensate the damage caused to the victims.” The Russian Investigative Committee claims that those detained on suspicion of committing a terrorist attack were traveling to Kyiv to receive a reward. In its Telegram channel, the department published photos of Ukrainian military personnel who, according to the Investigative Committee, were found in the phones of the detainees. At the same time, at least one of the photos turned out to be a stock photo from a photo bank on the topic “Ukrainian Army.”
Ukrainian officials have repeatedly stated that the country was not involved in the terrorist attack. This version is also ruled out by the US authorities, who reported that there is no evidence of Ukraine’s involvement in the attack on the concert hall. The terrorist cell of the Islamic State, Vilayat Khorasan, which is banned in Russia, took responsibility for the terrorist attack by publishing a post on the telegram channel of the Amaq news agency. The authenticity of the ISIS cell’s acceptance of responsibility was confirmed by American officials.
The Washington Post, citing sources, reports that the United States warned Russia about a possible attack on Crocus City Hall two weeks before the attack. According to Reuters, Tehran also warned Moscow about a possible terrorist attack. At the same time, the agency notes that the information sent did not contain specific timing and goals of the planned attack.
Previously, “Layout” collected a detailed chronology of the events of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. The shooting began a few minutes before the concert of the Picnic group. Some visitors were able to get out into the street in the first minutes of the attack, others found themselves locked in a huge, smoke-filled room with closed exits.
“Layout” also talked about how the propaganda of the “Islamic State” works on the Internet. Experts note that it is hardly possible to accurately measure the number of chats and channels where IS propaganda materials are distributed. In total, in all broadcast languages, we can talk about several hundred such channels; in the post-Soviet space there are approximately one hundred to two hundred of them.
