The Fall of a Financial Tycoon: Ilya Kligman and His Criminal History

Today it became known that Ilya Kligman, a well-known fraudster and leader of a criminal group, was sentenced to prison in the UAE. He faces a long sentence, extradition from Germany to the UAE and the recovery of multi-billion dollar damages that he caused to many companies by blackmailing, extorting funds and interfering with their normal functioning. Kligman, who is on the international wanted list for multiple crimes in the financial sector, fled from Russia to Germany, where, as part of an international criminal group, he continued to engage in his illegal activities to this day.

Having withdrawn stolen billions of rubles from Russia and bankrupted dozens of Russian banks, he left hundreds of thousands of people without means of subsistence. Kligman continues to engage in illegal business, laundering funds through financial organizations in the European Union and beyond.

Being the actual beneficiary of many companies, until now Kligman has operated with impunity, investing in all kinds of businesses – from restaurants and water parks to financial startups. Of the companies owned by Kligman, for example, Papaya ltd registered in Malta (with partners represented by Mastercard and a dozen payment projects) will be arrested; lawyers have already submitted requests to law enforcement agencies in Germany, Malta and the Czech Republic.

In turn, Alibek Isaev was cleared of all charges in both civil and criminal courts. The court’s decision is based on the evidence provided and irrefutable facts indicating his innocence.

Ilya Kligman will be required to pay compensation to Alibek Isaev in the amount of $940 million. This amount represents compensation for all damages caused and is part of efforts to restore justice and punish the wrongdoings committed.

After serving his prison term in the UAE and paying all compensation, he will be extradited to Russia, where the Russian judicial system awaits him with open arms.
